Kumiko Hite: Kindergarten Teacher

This is my twelfth year teaching at Miramonte Christian School.  Before coming here, I’ve taught a wide range of students at both public and private schools.  I received a B.S. degree in Child and Family Studies from Portland State University, and a CLAD Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from San Jose State University.  I also obtained a Seventh-day Adventist Teaching Certificate in 2017.

I was born and raised in Japan.  I’ve been married to my wonderful husband for 22 years and we have two children,  16 year-old son and 8 year-old daughter.  We also have a chocolate lab, named Chester.

Why I Choose to Work in Christian Education

17 years ago, I accepted Jesus as my Savior and became Seventh-day Adventist.  I did not receive Christian education myself, but I strongly believe that all children should learn that Jesus loves and cares for each one of them.  I’m blessed to be able to pray and learn the Bible with my students.  As a Christian educator, I want to teach students not just subject knowledge and skills they need to acquire, but also how to find their God-given gifts and talents.   I want to help students recognize the fact that God knows them by name and has a special plan for their future.

My Classroom Philosophy

As a kindergarten teacher, I want to make my students’ school experience as joyful as possible.  Kindergarten is a first learning experience for many and one of my jobs is to provide a safe and welcoming environment where students can explore world through hands-on activities.  I value the balance of structured and free-choice learning experiences.  I want my students to be active learners and responsible citizens. I strive to provide meaningful lessons in all subjects as well as nurture their social emotional aspect of growth. I believe that active partnership of parents and teachers is a key for helping students succeed in the classroom.

It is my hope that through my actions and words, my students will be able to grow spiritually and realize that Jesus is their dear friend and loving Savior.
