MRS LISA MITCHELL
I have taught for nine years at Miramonte in grades one and two. Before coming here I taught in Northern California in a small school where I taught a multigrade class of first-third grade. I have my teaching credentials through the state of California and have my Adventist teaching certification as well. I am currently working on my Masters in Education. I enjoy expanding my knowledge of how students learn and best classroom practices and seek out professional development opportunities in math, language arts, and students with learning differences. I am the assistant principal, assistant athletic director, and Student Success Team leader. My husband and I have four young children -TJ, Claire, Henry, and Wyatt. The older two are students at Miramonte. I enjoy stand-up paddle boarding, reading, baking, and being with my family.
My Classroom Philosophy
I see the potential in all of my students and recognize that each one has unique talents and interests and aim to help them all grow while they are with me. I focus on building relationships with my students so that we work together in the classroom to learn new skills and build confidence as they work on new things. My classroom is structured so that students know what to expect and feel supported. My classroom is active, students are engaged in collaborative projects, and my teaching and assignments are focused on the specific needs of the students in my classroom. I communicate effectively with parents so that we are a team to help their student reach their potential. Students feel supported while they make mistakes and learn from them. I believe in natural consequences and grace.
Why I Choose to Work in Christian Education
I choose to teach in an Adventist school because I believe in our approach to educate the whole child and appreciate the privilege it is to share my faith in God with my students and introduce them to the loving savior that Jesus is. I value the home- church-school connection and want my own children to have that supportive community around them too. I love the meaningful conversations that my students and I have as we learn about the world God has created and His great love for them.
